A successful conception depends on:
1. the condition of the sperm and egg
2. the sperm’s journey to the egg
3. the health and receptiveness of the uterus lining
Chinese Medicine has a long and proven history of enhancing fertility and natural conception for both women and men.
Fertility Treatments for Women
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is highly effective at treating and resolving a number of health and well-being issues specific to women, such as conditions that affect reproductive health and fertility. These include:
- regulating the menstrual cycle (i.e. long or short cycle).
- addressing pre-existing medical conditions and concerns: painful periods, endometriosis and PCOS.
- supporting IVF treatment to enhance chances of conception.
- reducing side effects of hormonal therapy.
- reducing stress and anxiety associated with infertility.
- regulating hormone and endocrine systems.
- reducing chances of miscarriage.
Our fertility treatments are highly personalised as each individual requires a different approach over a different time frame. However, in most cases, treatments are designed to span three consecutive menstrual cycles (12 weeks).
For instance, your first acupuncture treatments may take place on a weekly basis until the flow of your body’s energy becomes more balanced. During this time, you may notice that your menstrual cycles are more regular or your periods become lighter and less painful. You may also notice that your sleep and energy levels improve, your pre-menstrual tension eases and your emotions are more balanced. These types of changes indicate that our treatment therapy is progressing in the desired direction. This means that the blood is circulating properly, and the body is properly nourished and functioning at an optimal level, which increases the likelihood of conception.
Alongside acupuncture, you may also receive herbal supplement therapy and dietary advice to improve your general health and create the most optimal environment for conception.

Fertility treatments for men
Overall, sperm quality is on the decrease since the 1930s, due to several factors such as exposure to chemicals, excessive stress and poor lifestyle.
Excessive sex can affect overall sperm count and motility. For men trying to father a child, it’s recommended to only have sex every two-three days in the lead-up to ovulation. This will allow for healthy, viable sperm to develop. During ovulation, the frequency of sex can increase to help improve conception chances.
When planning male infertility treatments, we take a long-term approach to achieve an accumulative effect. As sperm maturation takes 72 to 90 days, our treatment plan is usually scheduled for 12 weeks, so we can directly influence the formation of healthy sperm and focus on ruling out existing disorders.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has proven results in improving semen analyses and can be beneficial for men with poor sperm quality, especially affecting morphology and motility.
Acupuncture is also known to improve low sexual function and abnormally low sperm counts, and lower elevated (>30.5°C) scrotal temperature in men with signs of genital tract inflammation.
